1st Year Astronomy Observing Nights

Every Thursday night, if the sky is clear, 1st year astro students are invited to come observing with students from the University's Astrophysics Research Group.

We will be looking at objects ranging from double stars to globular clusters. Observing is part of the lab component, and the demonstrators there will be able to answer any questions you have about what you will be looking at.

The observing nights will be located on the roof of the Doug McDonell Building (building 168 on the Uni Map), near the ERC library. The astro group has two 8" Dobsonian telescopes which you will be able to use during the night.

Observing starts after sunset, but you should arrive just before sunset, and goes for between 1 and 2 hours. You will be asked to complete a handout which will be marked as part of the labs. After completion, this handout can be given back to your demonstrator at your next normal lab session. We look forward to seeing you there!

Current Observing Status

Decisions on observing nights are made no later than 2 hours before sunset
